Watch my first super 8 film
I’ve finally finished my first roll of super 8 and Nanolab have processed and telecined it for me. Richard from Nanolab was really helpful and even gave me some tips to improve things on the next lot of film. Here’s the film in all its 3:30 glory. More info after the players.
The video was shot in a number of locations around Sydney, including my balcony and is partly for the Sydney 2008 8mm project and partly just testing the camera.
The camera is a Sankyo MF-303 and the video was shot on Kodak Ektachrome 64T but processed as if it was ASA 40 film. This has resulted in a slightly underexposed film which Nanolab pointed out. Next time I’ll just get the standard processing. Overall I’m quite pleased with the results and we’ll be getting someone to film our wedding in Super 8 along with photography and digital video.

For all those who were calling me cheesy for using the wonder years – I added it because the first 3 people who saw it said “Wonder Years!”. Hey at least I didn’t use Forever Young by the Youth Group. Which by the way had a video clip filmed on Super 8 in French’s Forest (near where I grew up) in the late seventies or early eighties.
Hi.Took interest in your film as I also have a Sankyo MF 303.A great litter camera. I’ve shot off about 15 spools and still having lots of fun experimenting with it. I am about to try a anamorphic lens for a great visual effect. Did Richard mention to you that these cameras were made for old K40 film and the new 64T film will be under exposed. Taping over the notch on the film cassette will push the stepped exposure leaver on the camera in, stopping you from needing special processing. My results after doing this was great. My first couple of films are very dark, even in full sun.
